A Love Note
February is a time when love is in the air. Valentine’s Day brings with it the opportunity to let someone know you love them. What makes them feel loved…gifts, time, touch, affirming words, or an act of service? Know your “Special” person and this year give the gift that will really touch their heart.
Burn Baby Burn
A Note from The Nature Conservancy of Louisiana
The Nature Conservancy of Louisiana plans to conduct prescribed burns at the Lake Ramsay Preserve and Wildlife Management Area during February through June 2005, weather permitting. The Conservancy will use planned, managed fires to restore and maintain healthy ecosystems and the wildlife that depends upon them, and reduce the potential for devastating wildlife. The Conservancy will conduct burns only during suitable moisture and other weather conditions that provide for a safe, responsible control burn. We at all times try to burn on days with good lifting conditions and with winds that blow the smoke away from homes and roads. However smoke may at times drift into the area. We regret this temporary inconvenience. In the end, these prescribed burns will help protect the entire area from future disastrous wildfires. The wildflowers bloomed magnificently last year after the burns!
We appreciate your patience and understanding. If you observe smoke or fire at the Lake Ramsay Preserve and WMA during this notice period, do not be alarmed. Call the Office of Forestry 893-6212 or local fire department to determine if prescribed burns are being conducted. If you have any questions of concerns, call The Nature Conservancy for more information at 809-1414.
Alligator Alert…The weather is still cool and the alligators are in hibernation mode but…soon they will be back and we want to be ready. If you think you have spotted one of the two alligators seen on our lake, call Wildlife and Fisheries 641-6209. They will send someone out to catch the alligator. Be sure to let your neighbors know immediately… they will want to protect their precious pets. Remember…dog is a delicacy for an alligator. DO NOT, and I repeat, DO NOT feed an alligator. He will then feed on anything that falls into the lake thinking it is food.
Welcome to all those who are just moving in. I hope this will make your transition easier.

Taking the pulse of the people …
Survey questions of the month?
What kind of speed bumps do we want on our streets …is the issue of the month. What do you think? We want to know.
Do… keep an eye out for anything-unusual…like alligators…and let the La. Wildlife and Fisheries know(they are waiting for our call)….Someone damaging the gate, let the police and your Phase Rep. know
Don’t…. speed ….There will be spot checks by the police to help us slow down
Do… bring your gate card with you when you leave the neighborhood
DON’T…. scroll through to find just anyone to let you in. If you forget your card…in the wee hours of the morning…. call a close friend (who will still love you) or the Police. They will let you in.
The January meeting was held at the firehouse on the 20th. The 2005 budget was presented, discussed and accepted. Dues will remain at $40 per family per year and are now due. Your checks can be made out to Lake Ramsey Civic Association.
The February 17th meeting will be a Pot Luck Dinner and will be at the home of Carolyn and Doug Block, 13445 Riverlake beginning at 6:30. Bring your favorite cold weather dish and join in for a special evening. The Civic Association has invited the Homeowners Association to make their awards presentation at this meeting. They will be honoring those who have served our community as former Board members and a special acknowledgement to our Web Master, Paul Barrios. We are thankful for the time and effort each of these neighbors has given to make our community a better place to live.
I have had several men volunteer to help with a fishing rodeo-all we need is someone to chair the event and the planning can begin. Time is getting short as the best time for the rodeo is March-just 4 weeks away!
Hats off to the 2005 Homeowners Board! If the January meeting was a sign of things to come then we are continuing on the road towards having a better community. Everyone, please be generous with your support to all of these people who give so very much of their time for the good of everyone who lives here and enjoys the improvements. We have come a long way in the past few years and it is because of the efforts of those who volunteer to serve.
We would love to see any new neighbors at our meeting on the 17th. Everyone is welcome, please feel free to join your neighbors for the Pot Luck Dinner. See you then.
Kathy Zeringue
Health Tip- When bitten by a wasp, ant, spider or other poisonous insect…wet the area and apply Adolph’s unseasoned meat tenderizer. This opens the pours and allows the poison to be released.
Things are still relatively silent as it is under an injunction due to the wetlands and nesting eagles.
What’s Up with the Entrance Road
Good news…. This Tuesday (not two weeks from Tuesday) our homeowner representatives will meet with Core’s street contractors to determine the layout for our new entrance road. Patience may be paying off.
Just So You Know
Questions, ….Who- What- When-Where-Why???
Who…gets a gate card to Lake Ramsey? Gate cards are given to all licensed drivers living at the Lake Ramsey address. (license must have Lake Ramsey address on it)
When … building in Lake Ramsey who qualifies for the gate card? The OWNER of the lot. If the contractor owns the lot and you just have a contract on the house, the contractor is the one who will get the gate card. Upon the act of sale, the card is then given to the new owner. If you buy a lot and are in the process of building a home, you are entitled to the card as an owner of the lot.
What … if I need another card to give to one of my children not living here? Only licensed driving children living in Lake Ramsey will have their own gate card. Why? We have a very unusual situation in Lake Ramsey. We have a lake…. and with it comes much responsibility to all of those who live here. It is in the interest of all residence to keep cards to a minimum. What if I need a card for someone taking care of my animals while I’m gone? You can give them one of your cards, since you won’t be needing it or you can have your phone number transferred to your cell and access it as if you were here. There have been some situations where an extra card was given for a special season of time. This will depend on the circumstance and time frame.
What… if I loose my gate card? Gate cards can be terminated at any time. Just call Bill White to get your new card and he will cancel the old one. No new cards will be issued without canceling the lost one.
Who …gets a Welcome Packet? Any new lot or homeowner can receive a Welcome Packet by emailing Evelyn Bordelon at seeker05@bellsouth.net
Where… do I send the Homeowners dues money? Lake Ramsey Homeowners Assoc., P.O Box 1746, Covington, La. 70434
