Re: Construction of Un-permitted Transfer Station
Dear Mr. Edmund:
I am a resident of Lake Ramsey and wanted to contact you regarding the un-permitted transfer station in St. Tammany Parish, Louisiana. The transfer station is currently under construction on Hwy 25, approximately one mile north of Covington, Louisiana. As concerned residents, we would appreciate your investigation of this issue.
The developer, Southeast Investments, LLC is representing the facility as a non-processing transfer station. However, it is obvious that the transfer station is intended to be built as a processing facility. It appears that the developer is attempting to circumvent any requirements to pursue a permit under the state’s current regulations, until the site is fully developed.
The site is in close proximity to housing developments, such as ours, which is built around a 600+ acre lake, individual residential homes, schools, a state historic road, a National Register of Historic Places, and a state scenic stream. The impact to the water table, flooding in that area, the mass traffic that travels from communities north of Covington, as this is their major access to New Orleans are among the issues that have not seriously been taken into consideration. The site’s location is not appropriate for such activities, and the individuals and companies involved in the development of the site have previously endangered public health and the environment operating similar facilities.
The construction of a transfer station at this location is unacceptable and an endangerment to public health and the environment. I look forward to your timely consideration of our request, since construction of the facility is progressing.
Sincerely,
